Spring Training report, Chicago Cubs.

It's been over 100 years since this Chicago Cubs last won a world series title.

In 2001 they had a very real reality of winning until they lost to the Marlins in game 7 of the NLCS. In 2007 the Cubs made the playoffs again but were swept by the D-Backs in the division series.

From the day Theo Epstien was hired in Chicago I've been saying that he's going to have the Cubs competing again by 2015. He and I both know that a lot of work still needs to be done for the Cubs to get there though. That means a lot of trades, player development, and of course some losing.

Looking back at 2012, the Cubs sent away ace pitcher Ryan Dempster at the deadline to the Rangers. On June 26th, 1st base prospect Anthony Rizzo was called up and absolutely impressed hitting .285, with 15 HR and 48 RBI in only 87 games played. Showing that his future in Chicago is very bright.

Overall the Cubs weren't very good last season ranking very low in BA, Runs, OPS, ERA, runs allowed, and hits allowed. So basically all-around the Cubs weren't good. The numbers don't lie.

With the signings of Nate Schierholtz and Edwin Jackson the Cubs went out to try and improve some of those flaws. It's not a lot but its still a start.

Chicago surprised some people when until the very end they were in and all most the winners of signing Anibal Sanchez. He went to Detroit insted.

Now Matt Garza will start the season on the DL. So the Cubs are already down one pitcher.

Work still needs to be done before the Cubs can win a sizeable amount of ballgames. But believe me when I say Theo Epstien knows what he's doing here in Chicago.

It may not look like it, but the Chicago Cubs are slowly inching ever so closely to returning back to glory.
