The Toronto BlueJays haven't been to the playoffs since 1993, and now they've become AL East favorites just like that.
Back in October the BlueJays aquired Josh Johnson, Jose Reyes, and Mark Burehle from the Marlins in a trade it shocked almost everyone in the league that the BlueJays would be willing to make such a deal. Days later they signed Melky Cabrera and got good quickly. Not long after, the Jays sent away a could top prospects in order to get Cy Young winner R.A. Dickey from the Mets in a deal that again surprised many.
Toronto has assembled a top notch rotation with Burehle, Johnson, and Dickey. Assuming Dickey continues his dominance and Josh Johnson can get back to the Cy Young stuff that got him here. And we all know that Burehle is a consistent and reliable starter any team would love to have.
Then you go to that dangerous lineup that now includes Bautista, Reyes, Lawrie, Cabrera, and Encarnacion. The time couldn't be better to have a roster of this caliber. The Yankees are old and now dealing with injuries. The Redsox are in a transition mode. The Rays just traded an ace in Shields and well have to see if the Orioles can win again this year.
The BlueJays are tired of losing. Tired of fighting for 3rd or 4th place. And tired of not having what it takes to win. Forget the top prospects, forget the future. Toronto has a roster the able to do some serious winning for a the next couple of years. And its safe to say that everyone in the BlueJays organization and their entire fan base is ready again for a winner. It's 20 years later, and the BlueJays are ready to be at the top once again.
