According to team sources, the Padres and free-agent P Edwin Jackson have been pursuing a 3-year contract to land the former National in San Diego. The Rangers, Twins, Angels, BlueJays, and Brewers have also had interest in the righty.
The Padres are ready to stop their pursuit is the market drives up the lenght to 4 or 5 years and above $12-$13M.
Jackson wasn't able to find a long-term contract last winter and settled for 1-year deal with the Nationals. He might have to find another short team deal if nothing comes up over the Padres.
San Diego is pressing hard to land Jackson, and have shown a lot of interest to sign some starters this winter. The Padres have alps shown interest in Ubaldo Jimanez, Justin Masterson, and Shaun Marcum.
