Its Tuesday June 1 and the New York Mets are in 2nd place only a half game back in this better then ever NL East. I don't know about you guys but I'm loving this, as a Yankee fan and fan of just about all New York teams this is something that's fun to watch.
My big thing about this team is how well they are hitting right now and I believe that the Mets need this offense to continue if they want to stay in the race. The Mets are a big name team with a lot of small name faces and that's probably my only issue with them knowing that they aren't those big name players that you can count on in big games. If they can make the playoffs can fans count on them in those big game 7 moments?
If there's one thing wrong with the Mets its not their offense. As a team the Mets are batting .260 which is 5th in the NL. And batting .279 with runners in scoring position and 2 outs, 1st in the NL and 2nd in the MLB. As good as they are hitting now its not going to last forever and eventually they will cool off because like I said they are not a team of super start but they are a good baseball team and that's good enough.
Also going good for the Mets is their pitching, with Johan Santana starting to heat up and R.A. Dickey having a great season (8-1, 2.69) the Mets have some good backup support in case their offense starts to fail. The New York Mets are a 2nd place team with 5th place expectations. And thats what I love about them, and if they really want to keep David Wright (who is also having a great season at the plate) then maybe winning a division title will place him playing at Citi Field for years to come.
