We've got another jam packed week of baseball ahead of us and with it, comes big series' with some of baseball top teams squaring off. Here's what to watch for.......
Athletics @ Red Sox:
Boston came into the season, given very little hope y many to succeed. Now at 12-6, they look to be a series champion contander. Back by a very solid pitching staff that's proved to shine in the big moments, Jon Lester and Clay Bucholtz have come out of the gates strong, both pitching very well in their first few outings. With the weight of an entire city on their shoulders, the Red Sox now have more reasons than ever to give the city of Boston something to cheer about.
Oakland is sitting a half game back from the Rangers in the ALWest with a 12-7 record. Leading the American League in runs scored, offense hasn't been an issue early on. With 2 player htting over the .300 mark, the pitching staff with the 6th best ERA in the AL has been given it's far share of run support. After pulling off a magical playoff run last season, the Athletics weren't given much of a chance to do it again this season. But they've proved early on that they as good a chance as many to play in Ocober.
Braves @ Rockies:
Who would have thought before the season that when the Rockies and Braves met, that these two teams would have the best records in baseball. Colorado has posted the best home winning percentage in the league and are currently leading the National League in batting average. This comes as no surprise that the Rockies know how to hit considering they play in a extremely hitter friendly ballpark, plus they lead the majors in hitting last year as well.
With the best outfield in the game, the Braves have shown early that they, and not the Nationals, are the favorites to win their division. Justin Upton is putting together an MVP type season, leading the league in homeruns. Another player that came with him to Atlanta was Chris Johnson who's hitting very a modest .407. Paul Maholm currently sits 4th in the National League with a 1.03 ERA and has been nothin short of lights out on the young season.
Rangers @ Angels:
Los Angeles has seen their offense finally start to heat, scoring 22 runs against the Tigers over the weekend, all in the effort of a 3-game sweep of Detroit. The Angels offense burst out for 9 runs in the 1st inning on Saturday, which included Mike Trout hitting his 1st caeer grand slam. Yes, Pujols and Hamilton continue to stuggle, but it's all ok as long as the team continues to win. Without a player with more than 2 homeruns, it comes as a surprise when you consider that their super stacked lineup was suppose to hit 1,000 dingers.
Texas has won four of their last five game coming in and took two of three games the last time that these two teams met during the first week of the season down in Arlington. The Rangers easily performed a 3-game sweep of the Mariners over the weekend, out scoring Seattle 22-3, in whice two of the games were shutouts. With Yu Darvish striking out every hitter he faces, the Angels can nly hope that he doesn't show up to the ballpark on Wednesday, when Darvish is scheduled to pitch.
Of course theres much more to look out for, but I see these 3 series' as the must wach TV for the week.
