Matt Harvey has only made 12 starts in a Mets uniform, and already, he surpassed expectations, to show he's the real deal in New Yorks rotation.
In 2 starts this season, Harvey is 2-0, with ERA of 0.64, and 19 strikeouts in 14 innings. The former #12 pick, has had very little problems facing big league hitters, and can easily be a force to be reckoned with.
What makes Harvey so good, is his tremendous stuff. His high 90's fastball, to go with his slider and curveball, complimenting a really good change-up. Harvey has the stuff to be an ace for the Mets, and with Santana down, it's time for that to happen.
Watching him pitch against the Phillies on Monday, I saw a lot of good things from Harvey. His mental toughness, after getting behind on batters, Harvey was still able to battle back and get outs. His fastball overpowered the Phillies hitters. His curveball and change-up kept the Phillies guessing. And his overall presence on the mound was dominant.
Just imagine a few years from now, when Harvey is the Mets number 1, and following behind him, their number 2, in Zack Wheeler. They're going to make a dangerous 1-2 punch. On Monday, Harvey showed me he's capable of great performances every fifth day.
I may not be a true Mets fan, but I sure do know a good pitcher when I see one. When I look at Matt Harvey, that's all I can see.
