The Yankees came into Wednesdays ball game in search of a win. Now after several solid performances by Clay Bucholtz, Dustin Pedroia, and Jarrod Saltalamachia. The RedSox defeated the Yankees, 7-4, leaving New York searching for some answers.
Boston scored two runs off Hiroki Kuroda, before leaving in the second inning, with a right middle finger contusion, suffered when Shane Victorino line ball up the middle, grazing Kuroda's finger.
Kuroda did stay in the game, until he hit Bradley Jr, walked Ellsbury, then hit Daniel Nava, leaving after only 1 1/3 innings pitched.
It was up to the Yankees bullpen to finish the game. Cody Eppley came in for Kuroda, and quickly induced a double play, to end the second inning.
But he ran into trouble in the third. Giving up four runs, on four hits, for Boston to jump out to an early, 6-0 lead.
Adam Warren was called in relief of Eppley and was able to pretty much highlight the Yankees night. Pitching 5 1/3 innings and allowing only one run, on five hits.
Boston starter Clay Bucholtz is on a mission to improve is 2012 numbers, and started his season off in great fashion. Bucholtz went 7 strong, giving up six hits, and only one run, on Travis Hafner, solo home run in the 4th inning.
New York tried to put together a late comeback, after Vernon Wells hit a 3-run home run in the 8th inning of Alfredo Aceves, to make it a 7-4 game.
But that was all they could manage after Joel Hanrahan came into the game to shut the door in the ninth. Ballgame, Red Sox win.
Some notables in the game include Kevin Youkilis, who went 2-for-4. Wells was 3 for 4, with 3 RBI. Daniel Nava was 2 for 3 with an RBI. And Dustin Pedroia and Saltalamachia each went 2-for-5 with an RBI.
The Yankees fate now rests in Andy Pettitte's hands, when he faces Ryan Dempster at 7:05 ET.
