Spring Training report, Colorado Rockies

Rocktober hasn't been to Colorado for a few years now, and the struggles of the Rockies seem to be growing.

The Rockies on paper don't have much on defense or offense that's needs to be filled. Maybe you can look at 2B/3B. Any well knowledge Rockies fan can tell you that offense isn't a problem. In fact the Rockies had a major league best .274 team avg last season, and were 3rd in the NL in runs scored (758).

Colorado's biggest back breaker is their pitching. A major league worst 5.22 team ERA is really what keep the Rockies from even being a contender for a playoff spot.

The numbers don't lie, when your last in ERA, BAA (.290), total runs (890), hits (1637), HR (198), and 2nd in BB (566), its just unbelievable.

You simply can not win when your pitcher can't get outs and they also give up 158 more runs than the offense score. Last I checked, World Series champions don't have those types of numbers.

Look at some of the past world series champions and you'll see that most of them got there because of their pitching, (Phillies-2008, Giants-2010-2012, Cardinals-2011). Offense sells tickets, defense and pitching wins championships. Simple.

So in 2013 for the Rockies, don't worry about the offense. With Tulo and Cargo both healthy the lineup will score runs. I expect Dexter Fowler at some point to be traded, but as long as he's there, he will produce at the top.

Unless the Rockies home is not at Coores Field, pitching will always be an issue. All you can hope for is a little bit of Rocktober magic.
