It's very obvious that 2012 was a huge disaster for the Boston RedSox. Between everything that happened on the field with a struggles of just about everyone. To the season long saga that was, Bobby Valentine. The RedSox were a mess.
Back in August, the team sent away Adrian Gonzalez, Carl Crawford, and Josh Beckett to the Dodgers in one of the biggest blockbusters of the century. Leaving a lot to fill in Boston.
Then after leading the team to its worst record in 60 years, manager Bobby Valentine was fired after just one seasone in Boston. One long, awful, historically bad, drama filled season.
The RedSox hired BlueJays manager John Farrell this offseason. Farrell is a fan favorite, returning to Boston for the 1st time since his role as pitching coach, for the 2007 world series champion RedSox.
Along with Farrell, the RedSox have brought in many new faces, to change the dynamics and culture of the clubhouse in Boston.
Veteran outfielders Johnny Gomes and Shane Victorino were both signed this offseason, to help bolster the outfield and the lineup. Both players, improve each.
Boston was also able to sign former Rangers catcher Mike Napoli. Some issues with Napoli's hip, came up while taking his physical. But all has been straightened out, and Napoli is having a good spring.
Ryan Dempster is also coming into Boston from Texas. He hopes to lead a rotation that's coming off a very disappointing season. Lester and Bucholtz, both struggled last year, putting up ERA's over 4.50. Lester though, is having a great spring, and even threw 6 perfect innings in his last start on Sunday.
Then adding in Joel Hanrahan and Koji Uehare to a bullpen that finished 2012 strong and could be very good again, this season.
So for the RedSox, 2012 is over. It's 2013 now. Time to forget about last year, and focus on this year. But to be successful, Lester and Bucholtz have to pitch well. The lineup and bullpen can be good, as long as the tension is gone. Just play baseball.
