What the 7 year megadeal means for the Mariners.

According to the many reports the Seattle Mariners and star pitcher Felix Hernandez have agreed to a 7-year, $175M super deal; making King Felix the highest paid pitcher to ever play the game of baseball. At least until Verlander and Kershaw get their new deals.

Since 2005 Felix Hernandez has been one of the best pitchers in Major League Baseball and he's been the face of the Seattle franchise for almost 8 years.

At only age 26 (Turns 27 in April) Hernandez has accomplished a lot while playing for a not so good Mariners team all these year. Like in 2010, with wins-Loss record of 13-12, Felix turned a lot of head when he won the AL Cy Young with such a off the radar wins total. It's not his fault that he got the losses he did, he still posted a 2.27 ERA doing the best of his job with the rest of his team not really doing there's.

In August of 2012, Felix Hernandez threw the 1st perfect game in Seattle Mariners history. So its about time he gets the money he deserves.

The timing and length of a 7-year extension couldn't be better for the Mariners. With only 2-years left coming in on his current contract the Mariners have been contemplating weather or not to trade their ace. Sould they do it, they could get a load of young talent. Keep him and risk losing him in free agency. Now the uncertainty is gone, the Mariners will be able to keep their franchise center piece until he turns 33.

For the Mariners and their fans, it would have been hard to see a home grown star just walk away, especially when having guys like Alex Rodriguez and Ken Griffey Jr leave after starting their legendary careers in Seattle.

For Seattle, they love him and he loves them. So a deal like this makes complete sense. When the Yankees signed Sabathia to a 6-year, $161M deal they since haven't looked back; and the Mariners will do the same.
