To get the brand new Major League Baseball season going, we have a Spring Training report on all 30 teams. Today, the Houston Astros.
2013 brings in a new era for the Astros. With a new look, new league, new rivals, but not a new team.
The Astros are still the 100 loss team that we've seen for the past few years. The club added Carlos Pena to help fill the newly needed DH roll with their move to the American League. Also adding in veteran pitcher Phillip Humber to the rotation.
Houston isn't a team trying to win now, they're trying to win in the future. By grooming young players like Lucas Harrell, Bud Norris, and all-star 2nd baseman Jose Altuve.
During the offseason, the Astros traded shortstop Jed Lowrie to the Athletics for young slugger Chris Carter.
With the Astros move to the American League the time couldn't be worse. The Angles are now loaded. The Rangers are still good. The Mariners got better. And the Athletics are the defending division champs. So as it stands don't expect anything better than last in the West for this year and years to come.
They won't put up a lot of runs, a challenge, or a lot of wins for the most part. But hang in there Astros fans, as it could only get better.
