The last time that the Atlanta Braves played at Turner Field, there was trash being thrown into play, as the Braves lost to St Louis, in the wild card game.
The mood was much different on opening day, as the Braves battled the Phillies in an NL East showdown, claiming victory 7-5.
Freddie Freeman got the scoring going early, when he belted a 2-1 pitch from Cole Hamels into right field, bringing home Jason Heyward, and a 2-0 lead.
Dan Uggla add a blast off his own in the third, giving Atlanta 3-0 advantage. Justin Upton also homered off Hamels the fifth. His first homerun as a brave.
Hamels finished after 5 innings, allowing 5 runs, on 5 hits, striking out 5, and giving up 3 homeruns.
Chase Utley started his season off in a great way, homering off Tim Hudson in the fourth inning for is 200 career home run.
Utley singled home two more runs in the fifth, then tripled in the 7th. He finished 3 for 5, with 3 RBI, and was a double away from the cycle.
Philadelphia was able to add one more run in the 8th off Jordan Walden, but still came up short falling to the Braves 7-5.
Other notables in the game include Tim Hudson, who didn't pick up the win, but still pitched well in 4 1/3 innings, giving up only 3 runs, on 6 hits.
Craig Kimbrel earned the save, by pitching a scoreless ninth. Freddie Freeman went 3 for 4 with 3 RBI, and a 2 run homerun, and Ryan Howard was 0 for 5 at the plate.
