The Seattle Mariners haven't been playoff bound since their 116-46 record season in 2001. But this year brings in some new found hope to Seattle.
Over the past 3 years the Mariners have slowly gotten better, but not by much. In 2010 the M's lost 101 games, 95 in 2011, and only 87 just last year. Those numbers certainly show improvement.
In 2013 I can only expect that number to drop again, by how much? I'm not sure. On one hand the Mariners are now a division Foe for the Astros, and yet at the same time the Rangers, Angels, and Athletics are also in their division.
But when I say that Seattle have been improving I mean it. Go ahead and look at what some of the biggest problems were in Seattle in 2012 and then look at the moves the Mariners made during the offseason.
Last season the Mariners were pretty much the worst offensive team in the American league. So this winter the M's went out to sign free-agents Jason Bay and Raul Ibaniez. Then also traded for sluggers Kendrys Morales from the Angels and Washington's.Michael Morse.
So yah, I think the front office did a good job.
Pitching wise, the M's were a lot better last season and added a little more help this offseason. Adding veterans such as Joe Saunders, Jon Garland, Oliver Perez, and Jeremy Bonderman to to help add depth and experience.
I'm not say that the Mariners are my hands down favorite to win the AL West, or be a powerhouse team, or even win 116 games. However maybe, just maybe Seattle will be sleepless in October with the playoff bug.
